This is the first in a series featuring dog-friendly places to visit in Connecticut.

Southford Falls is a state park located in Oxford, CT. Dogs are welcomed visitors, but they must be on a leash 7ft or shorter at all times.

This park has much to offer. There is a large pond where fishing is permitted, a beautiful boardwalk, a covered bridge, and a small waterfall. The waterfall leads into a brook that is perfect for cooling off in. Southford Falls is a fantastic picnicking area. Grills and tables are provided near both the pond and waterfall. There is also a pavilion available to use on a first come basis, but it can be reserved for special events as well.

Everything mentioned above is accessible to all*, and requires no hiking to enjoy. There are plenty of trails to follow for those who do enjoy a good hike, though. My favorite path, the red one, leads to a watch tower tucked within the forest.

Patty's Pantry is a five minute drive from Southford Falls. It's a quaint deli that offers a wide selection of grinders, salads, desserts, and very possibly the best fried chicken you'll ever eat. The outside seating is dog-friendly.
*Southford Falls has handicap parking. The boardwalk is spacious, and there is a wide crushed stone pathway leading from the boardwalk to the covered bridge.

Note: There are no trash containers at Southford Falls. Please plan accordingly and bring extra bags so you can double-bag your dog's waste.
